Latest news (updated weekly)

27th March 2020

As we enter the first week of “lockdown”, how are you feeling I wonder? I’m sure like me, you feel like you’re on an emotional roller-coaster. It’s important for us all to recognise and acknowledge all of the different emotions we feel, whatever they are.

I know from speaking to some of you on the phone this week, that we’re all finding ways to create a new rhythm to our days. For each of us that may well look different, but building a structure to our day is important for our wellbeing. So for me, that includes starting each day with a quiet time, reading and reflecting on Scripture; spending time working, phoning or emailing some of you; taking my daily exercise around the parish, and working on my crafting project- of which more later; before finishing my day with our nightly Compline Service, which I know many of you are joining.

In my relaxation time, I have decided to make a quilt. I wonder what other creative activities you are doing? Perhaps we might like to have an exhibition of these when the lockdown ends?

You can access the St Luke’s Church Centre Facebook page even if you don’t have a Facebook account by searching for it. It will ask if you want to set up a Facebook account but you can say no and still find it. We are still working out the best way to bring us together virtually for worship, but there are lots of services available online in the meantime – look on A Church Near You or I think Soul Church are also offering Sunday services online

Our Sunday service this week will be brought to us by Nicky and Richard Turk via Facebook live. Thank you in advance for this!

And remember: Our APCM is postponed. We still need to approve the annual report and accounts and this will be sent out to DCC & PCC members and posted on a separate page in this section of our website for all to read, once we have received the accounts. This has to be done by 31 May.

2. Please remember to stay in touch with your buddy. Carrie has the details for St Augustine’s and I have the list for St Luke’s. If you don’t have one and want one, you can email me sarah.quantrill@cantab.net and I will find you one. Please don’t stop contacting your other church family if you want to do so, this is just to ensure that everyone has someone they can talk to regularly.

3. I will try to phone you all each fortnight (if I have your number that is.) If not, please email it me.Equally if you dont want a call, then let me know- I promise I won’t be offended.

If you need to speak to me, please either leave a message on the answerphone if I am out for my daily stroll, or ring me between 4 and 5 pm when I shall endeavour to be by the phone. However, please note I will still be trying to have Tuesday as my rest day. As a consequence, Compline on Tuesday nights will be led by Richard Turk

Let me leave you with this prayer by St Columba

Be, Lord Jesus, a bright flame before me, a guiding star above me, a smooth path below me, a kindly shepherd behind me, today, tonight and forever. Amen

Yours in Christ

Sarah
